Pellet line power consumption

kWh per tonne, power to contract, supply current and diesel generator for your capacity.

How much energy a pellet plant uses

Energy is the second cost after raw material, and installed power decides the supply, the transformer and even whether the project is feasible where there is no three-phase grid. This calculator builds the consumption motor by motor for your capacity: mill, dryer, pellet mill, cooler, conveying and auxiliaries.

What it returns

kWh per tonne and per month, installed power and maximum demand, power to contract, supply current in three-phase and single-phase, starting type for the largest motor and, without grid, the diesel generator in kVA with its fuel consumption. With a free account you see the breakdown per machine and can enter the real kW of each one.

With the real motors

If you leave the equipment at zero, we use the motors of the Meelko line that covers your capacity, so the number is that of the machines you will buy.

How many kWh per tonne does a pellet mill use?

The pellet mill alone, 30 to 60 kWh per tonne depending on material and die. The complete line with mill, dryer and cooling goes to 60-100 kWh per tonne for wood and 40-50 for feed.

Can I run on single-phase?

Up to about 10 kW installed: a small pellet mill with a mill. Above that you need three-phase or a generator; the calculator warns you.

How big must the generator be?

Maximum demand divided by cos φ 0.8 with 25% margin for motor starts. The calculator rounds to commercial sizes and estimates diesel per hour.
