What does a tonne of fertilizer leave?

In fertilizers the difference between profit and loss usually comes down to two numbers: how much raw material goes into each tonne sold and how much water must be dried. This calculator starts from your production, the process (pan, pressure or bulk blending) and your prices, and returns cost per tonne, margin, monthly result, break-even and how many months the investment takes to pay back.

How it is calculated

The mass balance comes from the moisture of the raw material: compost at 35% needs about 1.4 t per tonne of granules at 12%, and fresh manure is composted first. Pan granulation adds water that is dried afterwards, with its heat cost; pressure compaction barely dries; NPK bulk blending neither dries nor grinds, and its cost is almost all raw material. Fixed costs (operators, maintenance, rent) are spread over the month's tonnes.

What margin does granulated organic fertilizer leave?

It depends on what you pay for compost or manure and how much water you dry. With your own or cheap raw material, organic granules leave a good margin per tonne; if you buy it and dry with gas, the heat cost weighs in. The calculator shows the margin with your prices and how it changes if price or raw material move 10%.

Granulate or sell in bulk?

Granules sell for more, spread with a fertilizer spreader and do not cake, but add grinding, granulation, drying and packaging. Enter the granule price and compare the margin with selling compost in bulk.

Why does NPK bulk blending leave little per tonne?

Because almost all the cost is the NPK salt you buy: the plant adds dosing, mixing and packaging. Money is made on volume and custom formulas, which is why break-even sits at high tonnages.
