The core of the plant is four MKRD508C-W flat-ring-die pellet mills operating synchronously to reach the full 10,000 kg/h output. This four-line architecture offers the maximum operational redundancy available on the market: if one or two lines require technical intervention, the plant can continue producing at 50 or 75% of nominal capacity without interrupting delivery commitments. Each pellet mill has its own steam conditioning system, allowing individual adjustment of processing conditions per line to maximize pellet quality regardless of raw material variations.
The plant integrates a SCADA system with touch-screen interface that centralizes control of all subsystems: feeding, conditioning, pelletizing, cooling, screening, and bagging. The operator can monitor and adjust all production parameters in real time from a single workstation, with historical data logging for performance analysis and process traceability. A multi-layer alarm system detects anomalies at any point in the line and automatically activates safe shutdown protocols, protecting equipment and ensuring product integrity. Remote connectivity allows Meelko's technical team to perform diagnostics and software updates remotely, minimizing intervention times.
The plant integrates the entire production process in a continuous, automated flow. Raw material is received in pre-storage hoppers, from which variable-rate dosing feeders direct it to each line's steam conditioners. In the conditioners, material reaches the optimal temperature and moisture for compression — typically 70–85°C and 14–17% moisture. The four pellet mills compress material through dies with 4–10 mm configurable hole diameters depending on the final product. Pellets from all four lines converge in a pneumatic transport system leading to a large-capacity counter-flow cooler, followed by vibrating screens and automatic bagging.
The 10,000 kg/h capacity positions this plant in the top-tier industrial installation segment. In the energy sector, it produces ENplus-certified wood pellets for biomass power plants, district heating networks, and co-generation. In the animal feed industry, it manufactures complete feeds for large poultry, swine, or cattle integrations with species- and stage-specific formulations. It also finds application in the production of pellets from agro-industrial residues — straw, rice husks, olive pomace, sugarcane bagasse — for energy recovery or growing media.
Installing the 10,000 kg/h plant requires an industrial building with a minimum floor area of 1,500 m² and clear height of 8 meters. Installed electrical power must be at least 700 kW at low or medium voltage. The steam boiler must supply 1,600–2,400 kg/h of steam at 4–6 bar. Dust and fines management must be considered in the facility design from the outset to comply with applicable environmental regulations. To maximize plant performance, raw material must arrive at the pelletizing system with 12–18% moisture content and particle size below 5 mm.
