The Meelko MKRD508C-W ring die pellet mill is the highest-performance industrial model in the range, engineered for continuous and intensive production in industrial biomass energy, alfalfa, dehydrated forage, and compound feed plants. With its 508mm diameter ring die and high-power main motor, the MKRD508C-W is the core component of Meelko's 1500, 3000, 5000, and 10,000 kg/h industrial plants, and is also available as a standalone unit for integration into existing or planned production lines.

Ring Die Technology and Compression Principle

Unlike flat die pellet mills, the MKRD508C-W uses a ring die of 508mm interior diameter. In this design, material is fed into the interior of the rotating ring and compression rollers push material outward through the die holes, producing pellets that are cut to the desired length by external blades. The annular geometry allows working with far greater compression forces than a flat die, resulting in higher density and more mechanically durable pellets, lower energy consumption per ton produced, and greater hourly capacity per unit of installed power.

Technical Specifications and Production Parameters

The MKRD508C-W is configured with a high-power three-phase main motor ranging from 90 to 160 kW depending on project specifications. Hourly capacity depends on the material, formulation, and conditioning conditions, with typical values of 1,000–2,500 kg/h per unit for wood biomass and 1,500–3,000 kg/h for cereal and legume feed. The ring die is interchangeable and available with 4, 6, 8, and 10mm diameter holes to match pellet diameter to target market requirements. Die speed, roller gap, and blade position are adjustable parameters for process optimization by raw material.

Integrated Steam Conditioning

The MKRD508C-W incorporates a twin-shaft steam conditioner located before the pelletizing chamber. In the conditioner, raw material receives a controlled injection of saturated steam and water to reach the optimal temperature and moisture for compression — typically 70–85°C and 14–17% moisture. This pre-conditioning improves particle plasticity, reduces the compression effort required, and increases the mechanical durability of the finished pellet. Residence time in the conditioner is adjustable via agitator speed to accommodate materials with different moisture and heat absorption rates.

Heavy-Duty Construction and High-Durability Components

The MKRD508C-W chassis and housing are manufactured from high-strength structural steel, designed to absorb the vibrations and dynamic loads generated during full-load compression. Main shaft bearings are double-row spherical type, dimensioned for over 15,000 hours of service life with correct lubrication. Transmission between the motor and die shaft uses direct drive with a flexible coupling that protects the motor from torque spikes. Dies and rollers are the only scheduled wear components of the machine and are available in different steel grades depending on the abrasivity of the processed material.

Integration in Production Lines

The MKRD508C-W can be installed as a standalone unit or in multiplex configurations of 2, 3, or 4 units in parallel to reach 3,000, 5,000, or 10,000 kg/h. In multiplex configuration, a central feeding system distributes pre-conditioned raw material proportionally to each pellet mill, and pellets from all units converge in a common transport system toward the cooler and bagger. This modular scalability allows the customer to start with one unit and expand capacity without changing the existing auxiliary equipment or infrastructure.

Compatible Raw Materials

The MKRD508C-W is designed and tested for a wide range of raw materials. In energy biomass: fine and coarse sawdust, wood chips, cereal straw, rice and sunflower husks, olive pomace, sugarcane bagasse, and any lignocellulosic material at 10–18% moisture. In animal nutrition: dehydrated alfalfa, ground hay, cereal and extraction cake blends, complete feed for any species. In industrial products: peat pellets, biogas digester residue biomass, and other organic composite materials. For each application, Meelko's application engineers provide the recommended die, roller, and process parameter configuration.
